About
Research-driven creativity.
Meg Hutchison (she/her)
I grew up in Brampton, a city close to Toronto, full of life and culture.
As the younger sibling, I fall into the stereotypes, creative and an agent of chaos.
I’m a media professional by trade and have found a home in the game industry. By day I’m creating worlds for players to explore, and at night I’m working on my research for my PhD.
I hope to make games that help people process and understand their grief.
Education.
In New Zealand. Learning about older populations fitness promotion. They could lift more than me.

I am a digital games scholar with an interest in virtual dark tourism (the grit and bloody gameplay). At Guelph, I studied trauma, terrorism, folklore, media pedagogy, Canadian literature, and improvisation.
My research project titled Duplicitous Logics of Gameplay and The Ethics of Far Cry 5 used gameplay to assessed the game for its carnivalesque qualities and inversions of power dynamics where player identities are caught up in a questionably unethical zone of pleasure and danger. In first-person shooter video game Far Cry 5, players inhabit spaces of identity that require a participatory erotic that includes murder and the destruction of property. To reconcile heroic virtues, players must participate in military operations of soldier engagement to maintain peace.
